"Libraries are the great equalizer. Libraries don't care who you are; their treasures are accessible to us all. Whether you're a sports junkie, an amateur political pundit or an escapist-by-fiction, there is so much available in a public library. We enrich our entire community by supporting APL as it moves into an exciting new space for everyone!
- Cathy Buchanan
In today's digital world,
why a new library?
Libraries have evolved with the times and transformed into an important social hub fostering literacy, knowledge, and cultural connections. APL is a safe, and welcoming space that offers something for all regardless of race, religion, social or economic status. It is the custodian of our past and architect of the future. And it is needed now more than ever.

The square footage of the library space is 53,000 sq. ft. By comparison our current library is 13,000 sq. ft.
It is a priority at APL to offer a space that is accessible. By breaking accessibility barriers patrons with disabilities are able to use the library to it's fullest potential. The building will have an elevator and space to navigate the building with mobility aides. There will be a washroom with an adult changing table.
The library will be Rick Hanson Foundation Accessibility Certified.
The current library has adapted and changed many times to keep up with the growing community. The current library struggles to keep up with the needs of the community. Our hope is that with the new library space, APL can match the community's growth.
The city of Airdrie is growing rapidly and the library needs more space to serve the community.

We have opened our doors as a warming station, added a community information table available to all, handed out hot chocolate and partnered with other community organizations. All this in a space designed for a population of 25,000. Airdrie’s population is over 80,000. The time has come for us to grow with our community.
The Airdrie Public Library’s expansion mission is simple: To meet the needs of the community we require expanding our collection of lendable resources twofold, and that will cost $1.5 million.
To accomplish this lofty goal, we are inviting you to participate with us by offering a wide range of support opportunities.

“I recently moved to Airdrie and by surprise, found the library and my new life here opened up.”

To fill our fabulous new space, we aim to double our resource collection. A collection that includes not just books but early literacy kits, learning backpacks, video games, magazines, and so much more.
To accomplish our goal, we need to raise $1,500,000.
We can't do that without YOU.
